How OlyChamp actually works

Built from scratch for six-year-olds who have not yet learned to read fluently. A quiet, focused ritual you and your child look forward to every day.

Step 1 • 5 Minutes Together

The Illustrated Prep Guide

Every chapter starts with an interactive, illustrated tutorial (~20 screens) broken into four bite-sized sittings of 5 minutes each.

Each screen is split cleanly for two roles:

  • 🗣️ What the parent reads: A crisp, conversational explanation in simple English that connects math to everyday objects.
  • ❓ What to ask the child: A specific question with a big picture prompt that gets the child talking and pointing.
"At age six, a child learns by verbal dialogue with an adult they trust, not by staring into an isolated screen."
Sample Screen: Time & Calendar (Screen 3 of 20)
READ ALOUD TO CHILD:
"Every month starts on a day of the week. Look at the top row of our calendar: Sun, Mon, Tue..."
OCTOBER 2026
SMTWTFS
282930 1 234
ASK YOUR CHILD:
"Which day does the 1st of October fall on? Point with your finger!"
Sample Question: Lengths & Weights
Which fruit is heavier?
🍉 🍎
🍉 Watermelon (Down)
🍎 Apple (Up)
Notice how the child doesn't need to read "equilibrium" or "gravitational mass". The pan that tilts lower is heavier!
Step 2 • The 10-Question Run

Independent Practice on Phone

When practice starts, the child takes over. Each session serves exactly 10 questions — an optimal attention span for a 6-year-old.

  • ✓ Zero reading friction: The options are pictures, coins, shapes, or numbers. The child taps their answer without waiting for someone to decode the text.
  • ✓ No timer panic: Regular practice has no ticking clock. Speed comes from understanding, not hurried guesswork.
  • ✓ 100% Offline: Questions and drawings are stored on device. Practise in the car, on holidays, or without internet.
Step 3 • Gentle Spaced Review

Mistakes Return Until Mastered

When a child picks a wrong answer in a workbook, parents cross it out with a red pen and feel frustrated.

In OlyChamp, mistakes are treated as normal stages of development:

  • 🔄 Intelligent queue: Questions answered correctly exit the active pool. Tricky questions quietly reappear in future sessions until answered correctly twice in a row.
  • 🛡️ No shaming or streaks: No punitive score deductions, no broken "streaks" that induce anxiety, and no red warning buzzers.
  • 📊 Parent insights: Parents see exactly which subtopic needs a chat (e.g. "tracing a cube face gives a square, not a rectangle").

Mastery through Spaced Practice

Rather than memorising the answer to question #14, the child encounters the same concept with fresh figures until the concept clicks.
